ELA Rubrics

The rubrics below are what we use to grade 8th grade essays or research projects in our writing classes. Before using the rubrics, our students are trained on how to use them.
Argumentative Rubric : based on the Common Core Standards and the PARCC graded exemplars

Informative (Expository) Rubric : based on the Common Core Standards and the PARCC graded exemplars
Works Cited Rubric : We add this component to the argumentative or informative rubrics if students write a research essay instead of a regular essay; based on Common Core Standards and MLA format.
Narrative Rubric: created for a personal narrative or story that students share specifically about themselves
The rubric below was created for other disciplines to use. This rubric will be used for shorter writing assignments and not full essays. It is not as detailed as the above rubrics and will be easier for non-writing teachers to use, but at the same time allows all subjects to grade based on the standards.
Analyses & Routine Writing Rubric: based on PARCC sample rubric.
The rubrics below are used when students give oral presentations .
Power Point Presentation Rubric: based on Common Core Listening & Speaking Standards; includes group and individual components.
Speech Rubric: to be used with individual speeches; based on Common Core Listening & Speaking Standards
Group Discussion Check List: a check list to analyze the effectiveness of group discussions; based on the Listening & Speaking Standards.
